The Other Side

This past weekend I attended Region II's Fall Regional Conference (FRC) for the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) in Norfolk, VA. From the years of 2012-2014 I had served on the Regional Executive Board (REB) as the O Zone Coordinator and the Vice Chair respectively. I remember the hustle and bustle of planning the conference and then running around like a chicken with its head cut off during the conference. But in the end all the late nights and in conference stress is worth it. However, this is the first time I've experienced the conference in it's entirety on...Read More

Welcome to the Village

"It takes a village to raise a child" -African proverb I'm sure we've heard this saying one time or another. And if you're experiences were anything like mine growing up you might be thinking "what village and who the hell would be in it?". However, as we grow older and wiser the village becomes more apparent in our lives whether we take the time to acknowledge it or not. Ethical Considerations

Ethics and morality are things one should keep in mind in everything we do. However, as our current Presidential race has shown not everyone operates with these things at the forefront of their minds. Whether you're religious, or believe in a higher power, or the power of the universe, wrong-doing...Read More

Curiosity Killed the Cat

But it never killed our educational system. In fact, curiosity is what probably inspired so many of the great things we have today. At some point in time the greatest inventors, scientists, artists, etc. felt compelled to ask the question "what if?". The question, that when answered, led them down the rabbit hole into our current history books. When thinking about a "learner centered classroom" you have to design your course keeping in mind, wait for it: THE LEARNERS. Revolutionary isn't it? But as simple as it may sound, things are always easier said than done. So how do we go...Read More

Beyond the Imagination

As technology continues to advance, I believe education is constantly trying to think about how to be more engaging as "multitasking" becomes more of a thing amongst students. There are so many distractions in this world as opposed to 50 years ago. But like anything that has ever become worth talking about, education must become viral. But going viral isn't easy. Different things engage different people and when the ultimate goal is to get a few learning outcomes across, things can get messy. However, we can't sit around and expect students to just read the textbook or review the powerpoint...Read More
