STEM Teaching at Mount Sinai

This summer I was afforded the opportunity to teach 7 rising 3rd and 4th graders in the realm of STEM. As I am preparing for my new reality of being an instructor of record upon my start at Virginia Tech, this was a great opportunity for me to truly test out my independent teaching skills. Throughout the summer I made sure that the students brushed up on their math skills and introduced them to some concepts that they could possibly see in their new grade in the fall. Upon the completion of those lessons, the students then moved into building a robotic arm...Read More

All But Thesis

Grad school is hard. Especially being an engineer. You have classes, you have research, and at some point in time you have to write a thesis. But those last two can be very difficult if everyone isn't on the same page. That's what happened to me. And although through the long haul I will be able to graduate, there's some things I wish I had known that I'd like to share to potentially help those following in my footsteps. Semester in Review

So I took a lot of time for myself this semester to refocus my energy into things that was most important in life spiritually, mentally, emotionally, and educationally. It's been a long journey but I'm very happy with the results! So lets do a review in chronological order from past to present. It was never on my radar until I felt compelled to take my doctoral studies on a different path than the one I'm currently on. And nothing but God worked...Read More

Engineering Week 2015

The last week of February is typically reserved for "Engineering Week" where when observed, celebrates and highlights different aspects of engineering. Well twice a week I volunteer at a local elementary school here in Charlottesville. So as a part of my T.R.I.U.M.P.H. Reach initiative, I came to work with the kids everyday highlighting a different type of engineering. Following a short introductory presentation to the kids about what the "engineer of the day" did for a living and how it relates to their lives, I did an activity with them to show that they can be engineers too (and not...Read More

Science Fair!

Who would've thought that the dreadful science fair most, if not all high school students are subjected to would one day have ME for a judge?! Yes you read that right! On Friday, February 20th, I returned to my alma mater Benjamin Banneker Academic High School (Go Achievers! woo!) to be a judge for the science fair. Rightfully so I was placed in the Math/Computer Science/Engineering section. I even dabbled in judging a Physics project too (I could've done more than one but I wanted to stay in my assigned section teehee). Anyways it was a long, interesting day. The...Read More
