Ethics and morality are things one should keep in mind in everything we do. However, as our current Presidential race has shown not everyone operates with these things at the forefront of their minds. The Office of Research Integrity have plenty of cases that shows people who thought they would be able to pull the wool of the eyes of others through fabrication of results which led to minor consequences such as corrections and retractions, to sometimes larger consequences like stripping someone of their degree. Whether you’re religious, or believe in a higher power, or the power of the universe, wrong-doing never goes unnoticed. Ethical rules are put in place to dictate a societal standard of what’s right and wrong regardless of what you morally believe to be write and wrong. One can only hope that society’s ethics and your personal morals coincide to avoid consequences associated with ethical misconduct.
