So my first question for you [the reader] would be: Do you know what S.T.E.M. is? Answer: Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (in case you didn’t know). This is a field that isn’t strongly populated by minorities in America. However, America is recognizing this deficit and are taking steps to expose more minority students to S.T.E.M. fields early so that it is amongst the career options or college majors they chose when it comes time. In particular, the University of Virginia host various programs and opportunities for students to get involved and learn and/or expand on their S.T.E.M. knowledge. And it is these programs that are being highlighted in the U.Va SEAS Unbound Magazine Fall 2013.
So why exactly is this relevant to my blog? Well:
1. It’s S.T.E.M. related (I’m an engineer remember!)
2. This is a publication from my graduate institution
(and last but not least)
3. I’M FEATURED IN THE ARTICLE!
Now I didn’t do an interview but I did do a photoshoot! And I’m not quite sure if anyone else did a photoshoot but nevertheless my face was presented as the “poster child” for the success of these programs at U.Va. WHAT AN HONOR! Especially given that this is my FIRST SEMESTER (like to this day I haven’t been here for 3 months yet). All and all I am very humble and thankful that God is using me to make a difference wherever I go!
