Semester in Review

So I took a lot of time for myself this semester to refocus my energy into things that was most important in life spiritually, mentally, emotionally, and educationally. It’s been a long journey but I’m very happy with the results! So lets do a review in chronological order from past to present.

Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University

Who would’ve known that I would’ve applied and been accepted to Virginia Tech?! It was never on my radar until I felt compelled to take my doctoral studies on a different path than the one I’m currently on. And nothing but God worked this process in my favor – from applying at the last minute to my acceptance I’ve had a guardian angel during this entire process.

Inaugural UNCF-Mayor’s Masked Ball

Being a Gates Millennium Scholar also means I’m a UNCF Scholar as well (the umbrella for the African American students). Well, a fellow UNCF Scholar and former classmate asked if I would be willing to speak about how being a scholar has affected my life (which it has!). It was a beautiful formal event in which my parents proudly accompanied me in the evening’s festivities.

#NSBE41 Annual Convention

“I’m going going, back back, to Cali Cali” is what I sang when I touched down in Santa Ana’s airport for my return to the state of California for the second time in less than a year (and in my life!). But yes my love for NSBE continues to thrive as I reached the peak of my term as the Technical Research Exhibition (TRE) Coordinator and was elected National Public Relations Chair for the National Executive Board! Not to mention – I WENT TO DISNEYLAND! #PureJoy

Thesis Defense

This had to be the most stressful point of the semester as I battled the entire semester to get to this point especially with the never ending “threat” that I may not graduate in May. But luckily everything worked out and I’ll be graduating in May (woo!). I’ll actually be blogging in more detail about the thesis defense so stay tuned 🙂 .

T.R.I.U.M.P.H. Reach Scholarship

For those of you who may have been following what I’ve been up to, you would have an idea about the T.R.I.U.M.P.H. Reach organization that I cofounded in 2011. On April 18th, we were able to award our 3rd set of scholarships winners with the help from the NSBE @ VCU chapter. It makes me so happy that we’ve been able to still make an impact even as VCU alums!
