Into the Future

On Friday, November 18th I had the pleasure to visit the White House to be apart of a conversation on "Advancing Postsecondary Diversity and Inclusion". This was an all day event that included university reps from students to presidents, and staff of the department of education. I found out about the opportunity through my involvement with the National Society of Black Engineers and it was a great opportunity for the NSBE members in attendance as well as the other students who I met and quickly bonded with during the convening. The day started out with three panel sessions: Leadership Reflections:...Read More

STEM Teaching at Mount Sinai

This summer I was afforded the opportunity to teach 7 rising 3rd and 4th graders in the realm of STEM. As I am preparing for my new reality of being an instructor of record upon my start at Virginia Tech, this was a great opportunity for me to truly test out my independent teaching skills. Throughout the summer I made sure that the students brushed up on their math skills and introduced them to some concepts that they could possibly see in their new grade in the fall. Upon the completion of those lessons, the students then moved into building a robotic arm...Read More

All But Thesis

Grad school is hard. Especially being an engineer. You have classes, you have research, and at some point in time you have to write a thesis. It's been a long journey but I'm very happy with the results! So lets do a review in chronological order from past to present. Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University Who would've known that I would've applied and been accepted to Virginia Tech?! It was never on my radar until I felt compelled to take my doctoral studies on a different path than the one I'm currently on. And nothing but God worked...Read More

Community Outreach

So I was blessed with even more opportunities to give back to the community and teach 6-12th graders about STEM, the role it plays in their every day lives, and how they too can make a difference in the world of STEM. The first event was actually a Career Day at Wilder Middle School in Richmond, VA. The students were tasked to go to at least three of the booths (one being the one my friend and I was running) and ask the people at the booths about their profession and what they did to be successful in their careers....Read More
